Conventions Analysis Front Cover and Brief

Brief- To design a front cover, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and text used must be original, a minimum of four images must be used.

Ideology- The ideology of NME is to promote new and upcoming music. NME also promotes indie music. Also the ideology is to go against usual expectations of a regular music magazine; this is because NME doesn't just focus on big artists.
Institution- NME is published by Time Inc. UK (formally the IPC) which was founded in 1968. Time Inc. is a consumer magazine company and groups its main current titles under three magazine divisions-  Lifestyle, Luxury and Specialist. Magazines which are published here include: Teen Now (Lifestyle), Uncut (Lifestyle), Now (Lifestyle), Marie Claire (Luxury), Country Life (Specialist).
Audience- From looking at the front cover of NME I would say the target audience would be men (70% men) and women who have an interest of indie, live and new music.
Representation- NME is represented as a male dominated magazine; you can tell this from the font chosen and the colours used (red, black and white). The NME cover is also represented as being a British dominated magazine; you can tell this from the colours again (red and white).
